Canada the nearshore US ally

The Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail describes in this article that major ICT companies such as IBM and Accenture are expected to hire in Canda by the end of this year more than 2000 ICT professionals. They will contiune to extend their business units that provide IT outsourcing services to the US-based companies.

Mr. Morris (IBM Canada) said that his company and some others are benefiting from the trend to hire lower-paid information technology employees in countries like India and Romania. While Canadian wages for comparable jobs are much higher than in some Asian and former East bloc countries, they are still lower than U.S. wages. Moreover, U.S. firms hiring Canadians suffer less political backlash than those that hire further offshore.
