Opportunities and Opportunities…

EU Information Society and Media Commissioner Viviane Reding (which in the previous Commission was responsible of education and culture, and i have here some arguments about her performance) has acknowledged in a panel discussion the problems EU is facing in IT research. She said there was a need for a change in mentality in the EU, pointing out that bureaucracy "does not eliminate risk, and can merely hide it". So much of acknowledgement, said all over again, we need to see actions especially since the bureaucracy comes from EU Commission itself. Continue reading

Europe outsourcing capital of the world

According to the latest of Quarterly Index from outsourcing advisory firm TPI, Europe accounted for just under half of the value of major outsourcing contracts (those worth over €40m) awarded worldwide in 2004. The US came in second at 44 per cent, with Asia Pacific trailing at just seven per cent. The value of major outsourcing contracts awarded last year was a record €58bn worldwide. However, these are large contracts (over 40m deal) not accessible to the small operators in the outsourcing field. Continue reading

Romanian software makes it to the top

Microsoft has just announced that their are going to offer starting this Tuesday their own version of antivirus software. The nice part is that their software is based on the technology that Microsoft purchased from a Romanian antivirus firm, GeCAD Software Srl., for an undisclosed amount in 2003. Continue reading
