First Romanian study on the costs of outsourcing of an IT project to Romania

Romanian companies that offer their outsourcing services on the international software and services market charge, on average, between 17 and 21,4 EURO per hour of programming according to the study “Outsourcing to Romania: How much will it cost me?�. The study has been carried out between February 8th and March 5th 2005 and is available on www.pintilie.ro

The study reveals that Romanian companies have on average 7 years of experience in software development and over 20 programmers. Even if the average price is 18 EURO per hour, it can vary depending on the experience and expertise of each company, on their employees, on the size and length of the projects etc.

Romania, like many other countries in Eastern Europe, mainly the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, is competing with India and China on the outsourcing market for IT projects coming from countries such as US, Canada and members of the European Union. Often referred to as a second “Internet bubble�, outsourcing is an industry of approximately 49 billions USD a year. “In Romania we can notice a small rise in the prices , mainly due to a lack of Romanian IT specialists. Even under these circumstances the average price of 18 EURO per hour gives us an advantage over the other countries in Eastern Europe and justifies our status of favorite IT outsourcing destination mainly from West European countries.� said Adrian Pintilie, independent consultant. The depreciation of US dollar against EURO, is diminishing the advantage that Romania had against India, where the medium price is 20 USD per hour or approximately 17 EURO per hour.
