Romania, first place among European countries

4 gold medals, one silver and one bronze for the Romanian students which took part in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) organized from 8 to 19 iulie in Merida, Yucatan, Mexic. The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 80 countries from 5 continents.

According to this article, an un-official chart, positioned Romania on first place among European countries, and on the second place globally, on equal positions with USA and Russia.
