Following the push of Apple in opening the platform for mobile applications just a little over 2 years ago, the market exploded. You will soon be able to buy and install applications in most of the consumer appliances: TVs, netbooks, BluRay’s , etc. Actually, the most interesting piece of news at CES this year was that actually car manufactures are opening their platforms too. We, the developers will be able to create apps/widgets for cars and you will be able to buy them to add them: mapping, geo-location, social, etc.
So, developers keep an eye open, there will be plenty of opportunities to innovate. Just think how the first OS developed by Microsoft (actually they weren’t the first, but that’s more popular in common culture) has created a whole new industry. The only current problem i see that, there will be again a lot of fragmentation in the software development tools.
